Why we should all buy a Mac!

May 30, 2007 · 1 Comment

Article: “why you should buy a mac” from aPCmag.com via FreeMacBlog.com

Well, finally someone put together the arguement for me :D

And for those “Mac’s are so expensive” people:

“Getting back to the cost, it’s true that you won’t find a Mac as cheap as cheapest red spot specials from Dell or Acer. But have you actually tried buying one of those $799 laptops recently? By the time you spec them up to a reasonable standard, you’ll find you’ll have spent half as much again in extra RAM and an upgrade from basic DVD-ROM to DVD writer.”

Please…argue with me!

Cheerios :)

Digital Cinema Evaluated – Essay

May 29, 2007 · 3 Comments

I’ve been doing an essay on Digital Cinema, there is some pretty interesting stuff out there and how it is probably going to affect us… I would really love to see cinemas start to screen more alternative content (e.g. live concerts and independent films!!!) and I look forward to the idea that small independent cinemas might pop up with interesting content (Mac Uni already screens stuff in one of their lecture halls).

Its a long read and not quite an interesting journaistic style, but I’ll leave it here for future reference.

The rise of digital independence

The introduction of digital technology arguably represents the most exhaustive technical and social changes in the history of cinema, greater than both sound and colour (Ford 2005). In analysing who benefits from the proliferation of digital cinema, it is helpful to review it in the context of the traditional film making process and then to define digital cinema in regard to this. Developments in digital media are having a significant impact on the spectrum of cinema production (filming, editing and effects) and distribution (printing, shipping and screening). This results in both positive and negative ramifications that can be addressed in relation to a number of recent Australian films with digital processes.

The world of cinema began to change with the advent of films like the original “Star Wars“ (Associated Press 2005) which pioneered and developed digital editing and rendering techniques. This explosion has led not only to digital film industry but also the proliferation of technologies as video games, DVDs and video podcasts (Manovich 2007). Digital technology has also allowed the possibility of interactivity (e.g. alternate endings on DVDs), however this essay will instead focus on the feature/short film productions which are designed to be projected in a theatre.

Blogging Jitters & MacTab

May 11, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I realised that I have the blogging jitters, I don’t blog not just because I don’t have the time but because I am afraid if I do, I will feel like it is a pathetic attemp… so what…?

So what did I want to share with you..? My new favourite technology mockup…

Ultra portable, Mactab is the complement to MacBook. The incredibly thin wireless keyboard is used as a protection cover for transportation. It stays in place with a combination of magnets and notches. On the back of the computer, a hinge allows it to be put in a vertical position so you can use Mactab comfortably on your desk. Thank you plaxo

November 14, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I just almost died… well my heart certainly stopped beating for a while at least.
You see I just synchronised my phone with the computer as I normally do, and for some unknown reason (I spent 15 min on the phone finding out that this was an anomaly) all my contacts on the computer and phone were deleted!

332 contacts each with several phone numbers, addresses, birthdays, email addresses etc.

After 20 min I suddenly realised that I had plaxo installed (it keeps an online copy of my contacts).

You have no idea how much this shocked me.

Have you guys had similar experiences?

Cheers,
Luke

SpillingBeans…not just a blog name

November 9, 2006 · 2 Comments

Well, aside from Uni work, rowing and design work something else has been taking me away from this blog…

And many of you guessed it right. It is the beautiful Miss Ashleigh Bennett.Sad, I know… long time coming, yes… happy, you bet ya!

But I have learned a lot over the last couple of months particularly. Some of which I will share later, a lot of which I will not share at all (well maybe in person). What I will share though, is the ways which we have managed to have a great time and it be slightly creative, not costing an arm and a leg.

  1. Lunch @ the beach
  2. Picnics @ the lake
  3. Ferry rides to
    1. the city
    2. central coast
  4. Jazz cafe’s
  5. Doing things mid-week
  6. Being in the right place at the right time (we saw fireworks on the ferry from the city)
  7. Spending time ‘just being’
  8. Talking about your dreams
  9. Long walks
  10. Gelato! (or sorbet)

Well, thats my thoughts for now, not a very deep post for the subjec, but I am not going to go into the details of my relationships online!

This photo is from last night at narrabeen beach.

mmm, great times…

What do you guys do for inexpensive, yet somewhat creative dates?

Ditch a Mac Guy

November 9, 2006 · Leave a Comment

According to this article they are ditching Justin Long from the Mac Ads. Well all good things must past. The article had a kind of bad attitude towards Justin Long’s character.

Oh well… yeah, I will blog things of interest sometimes.

Cheers,
Luke
